The Story

There’s something about the Welsh coast that makes you feel the age and strength of the land beneath your feet. Rock shaped over time, meeting a sea that never really stops trying to reshape it. 

I shot Land Over Sea on 35mm film during a summer by the Welsh coast. I love the contrast in this photograph; the solid rock reaching out over the water and the sea moving beneath it. Two completely different forces that have been meeting here for longer than we can imagine. 

I chose this deep wooden frame with its subtle gold detailing because the warm, earthy tones felt like a natural fit for the rock and the coastline. The wide white mount gives the photo plenty of space, while the darker frame gives the finished piece a little more weight.
